1955 - The FIRST MICROWAVE OVEN was sold by Tappan. It cost $1,200, but it could cook bacon in 90 seconds.



1964 - The ROLLING STONES made their first appearance on the "Ed Sullivan Show". Numerous complaint letters prompted Sullivan to promise they'd never appear on his show again, but, they did in 1965.


1973 - JOHN LENNON filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government, alleging that his telephone was being tapped at a time when he was fighting a deportation order.




1978 - JOHN CARPENTER'S "Halloween" premiered in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. It starred JAMIE LEE CURTIS.
1986 - In Game 6 of the World Series, New York Met Mookie Wilson hit a slow roller to first base that WENT THROUGH BILL BUCKNER'S LEGS.

1992 - TINY TIM'S UKULELE WAS STOLEN from a Des Moines, Iowa, hotel lobby. Unfortunately, it was found a few hours later in a trash bin.

1998 - SOLEIL MOON FRYE ("Punky Brewster") married Jason Goldberg. Today is their 9th Anniversary.



1999 - Golfer PAYNE STEWART and five others were killed from a lack of cabin pressure in the Lear Jet they were in. After flying on autopilot for four hours, it crashed in South Dakota.

All of the proceeds benefit from the run go to support child abuse treatment and prevention work being done at the Howard Phillips Center.
